Global Best Practice Study Visit

Insight Research will be hosting an electric vehicle, foodvenience and technology focused best practice tour in Oslo, Norway this September.

Featured Retailers

Norway is moving faster into electric vehicle adoption than any other country globally. In the first 3 months of 2018, 48% of new car registrations in Norway were either hybrid or electric vehicles. In Norway electricity is considered to be clean energy as the main source of power is hydro-electric and wind energy. There are also major consumer concerns around the health implications of pollution in the cities. Norwegian politicians and the electorate appear united around green initiatives. The overall vision is that all cars sold after 2025 should be zero emission.

In this context roadside retailers have had to think carefully and positively about future strategy. Our site visits will be hosted by senior representatives from Circle K, Reitan Group and Deli de Luca. Some, like Circle K believe that with the right EV strategy, combined with rapid innovation in foodservice and the latest technology, there are considerable opportunities for growth. In some ways, convenience businesses in Norway believe they need to work harder to be ‘businesses with purpose’, facilitating the future needs of Norwegian consumers in the right ways. As Jacob Schram says in our Retail Vision TV video:

“If we can turn into a company that actually with EVs provides green energy, with food provides more fresh, healthy options, helping people with their eating habits on the go, less sugar, less fat ... and we can be the channel for moving that, that’s great, that’s a higher purpose at the same time as it creates business.”

Our 2018 retail study tour visit for international convenience and fuels retailers and suppliers offers a unique insight into the future impact this will have on service station retailing and crucially, the effective strategies that Norwegian operators are deploying around foodvenience and technology. Confirmed visits so far include Circle K, 7 Eleven, Narvesen, Deli de Luca and the Norwegian EV Association. Attendees will also benefit from Insight’s strategic briefing on the latest global developments in our industry and how what’s happening in Norway fits into this story. How significant are the latest developments in markets like Norway and also China? And, should we be also be thinking about the implications of the growth in shared mobility services and the technology behind changing patterns of transportation.

How significant are legislators in driving change and why has this happened so quickly in Norway? Also, what are the long-term impact on Government revenues? It has been reported that the Norwegian government has NOK 10 billion less in annual income from car sales. What insight can we offer in this regard?
